BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Gimnasia stayed in touch with leaders Atletico Tucuman with a 2-0 home win over Godoy Cruz in Argentina's Primera Division on Friday.
Brahian Aleman put the hosts ahead just after the hour mark when he converted a penalty after Gianluca Ferrari's hand ball in the area.
Aleman then turned as a provider, laying off the pass for Leandro Contin to bundle home his team's second goal from close range in second-half stoppage time.
The result leaves Gimnasia second in the 28-team standings with 24 points from 12 matches, a point behind Atletico Tucuman, who have a game in hand. Godoy Cruz are eighth, six points further back.
In other fixtures on Friday, Sarmiento won 2-1 at home to Lanus, and Banfield were held to a goalless home draw by 10-man Patronato.
