BUENOS AIRES, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Eduardo Dominguez resigned as manager of Independiente on Tuesday, just six months after taking charge of the Argentine club.
The 43-year-old's decision followed a 1-0 away loss to Racing on Sunday, a result that left Independiente 22nd in the 28-team Primera Division standings.
"It's been a difficult time for me and the players," Dominguez told reporters. "The only thing I have to say is thank you to the club that has opened the doors for me, that has made me feel comfortable and good enough to work the way I wanted to.
"We generated great expectations at the beginning of the year and unfortunately we haven't been able to continue playing that way. I wish everyone here all the success in the future. I leave knowing that I gave everything I could."
Independiente did not immediately say who would replace Dominguez.
The club's next match is a home league clash against Rosario Central on Saturday.
