RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Argentine Antonio Mohamed has been appointed head coach of reigning Brazilian Serie A champions Atletico Mineiro, the Belo Horizonte club said on Thursday.
The 51-year-old replaces Alexi Stival, better known as Cuca, who resigned in December due to personal reasons.
"Hopefully, he [Mohamed] will bring the same successful style that he has implemented with his previous teams," Atletico football director Rodrigo Caetano told the club's official website.
"He has been a very successful manager and we are waiting for him and his three assistants to arrive."
Mohamed, whose managerial career has included spells at Spain's Celta Vigo, Argentine outfit Independiente and Mexican giants America, has been out of work since parting ways with Liga MX club Monterrey in late 2020.
According to Brazilian media reports, his Atletico contract will run until December this year.
