MEXICO CITY, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Santos Laguna and Atlas booked places in the quarterfinals of the Liga MX Clausura on Saturday by eliminating Tigres and Queretaro in the repechage stage.
Santos Laguna cruised to a 5-0 home win over Queretaro courtesy of an Eduardo Aguirre brace and goals from Diego Valdes, Ayrton Preciado, and Fernando Gorriaran.
Meanwhile, Atlas overcame Tigres 1-0 at home after a late strike from Argentine forward Julio Furch.
The results mean Santos Laguna and Tigres now join Cruz Azul, America, Puebla, and Monterrey, who earned a direct berth to the quarterfinals by virtue of finishing the regular season in the top four.
On Sunday, Leon is due to host Toluca and Pachuca is at home to Guadalajara in fixtures that will decide the remaining two places in the last eight.
