SAO PAULO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Fernando Diniz has been appointed manager of Santos for the rest of the 2020 season, the Brazilian club said on Friday.
The 47-year-old replaces Argentine Ariel Holan, who resigned on April 26 after just two months in the job.
Diniz's first match in charge will be next Tuesday's home Copa Libertadores duel against Boca Juniors, according to a statement on Santos' official website.
Santos are currently third in Group C of the Copa Libertadores - South America's premier club competition - with one win and two losses.
Diniz has been out of work since parting ways with Sao Paulo on February 1.
A former midfielder who played for Santos in 2005, Diniz's managerial career has also included spells at Fluminense and Atletico Paranaense, among other clubs.
