Babies and aircraft not compatible say mothers

Argentina Star Sunday 30th January, 2011

While federal safety officials in the US have urged parents to put their children in child seats on planes, United Airlines has confirmed a mother with child was asked to leave a flight at San Francisco.

The California mother told airport business news she had been forced from the United Airlines flight after a dispute took place over an economy-class row too narrow to accommodate an infant carrier for her one-year-old daughter.

She said she had been using infant and child seats on planes for years without a hitch until she found she could not squeeze down the narrow United aisle.

A United spokesman said the woman and her traveling party were removed from Flight 75 to Honolulu because she was causing a disruption by taking pictures of the aisle.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been campaigning for regulations that could require all infants and young children to be secured in child seats on planes rather than allowed to fly in a parent’s lap.
